The Aspen School District is seeking a highly skilled, customer-focused, team-oriented Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations to begin on or before July 1, 2022. The individual will provide and be accountable for the leadership, strategic direction, management, quality control, and evaluation of all of the district’s business operations, processes, and procedures. The ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR BUSINESS AND OPERATIONS must be a clear communicator, authentic collaborator, a regular and visible presence in the schools and community, and a role model for attention to detail and process management. An individual who thrives in the outdoors and immerses oneself in, and contributes to, the culture of the greater community will be a strong candidate. The compensation package will be highly competitive, with a salary range of between $120,000 and $175,000 commensurate with experience. District housing is available for the successful candidate.
The Aspen district educates 1700 students (PK-12) in four schools that share a campus as well as the charter Aspen Community School (K-8). Aspen is a year-round thriving community of outdoor activities and world class artistic and cultural events. Located in of America’s most naturally beautiful settings, it is an ideal location for one who embraces the outdoors and the arts, and both understands and appreciates the mountain culture.
The ideal candidate will be a systems thinker who has successful experience leading operations in a school district, non-profit, or government entity. The ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR BUSINESS AND OPERATIONS reports to the Superintendent, attends all School Board meetings, and serves on the District’s Leadership team. The ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT needs to inspire confidence and credibility while ensuring that district leaders, staff, and community understand the current and future implications of operational decisions using a transparent and open approach. The ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT supports and must exemplify the relationship between the Aspen School District and all stakeholders with a service oriented, “customer support” mindset.
A critical responsibility of the ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR BUSINESS AND OPERATIONS will be to engage staff and stakeholders in achieving this goal from the District’s 2022-26 Strategic Plan:

sustainable energy, nourishing food, and quality extracurricular activities.

The District will move in a direction that is Net Zero for energy consumption and is environmentally friendly, reducing water consumption and air pollutants.
The District will develop a housing strategy to attract and retain employees while endeavoring to become self-funding for repairs and maintenance.
Develop a robust set of systems to control expenses and align our budget with the strategic plan.
A Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field is preferred as is leadership experience operations in education or governmental operations.
