Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the nation’s 11th largest school division, is seeking a dynamic leaders to serve as the Chief Academic Officer. FCPS, located in the Washington, DC region, serves a diverse student population of more than 189,000 students in grades pre-K through 12. FCPS students come from all over the world and speak nearly 200 languages. FCPS is the third largest employer in Virginia. The school division has approximately 27,500 full-time employees and an operating budget of $2.9 billion.
The Chief Academic Officer will lead and manage the programs and processes of FCPS that promote and sustain the instructional framework; provide innovative leadership and management oversight and ensure accountability for curriculum, instruction, and assessment for general and special education, adult populations, and related student services.
The Chief Academic Officer will promote and maintain a focus on raising student achievement, closing achievement gaps, and school improvement; implement the Division’s Strategic Plan and its elements into the organization’s culture; support equitable opportunities for all students; lead cross-departmental efforts to ensure that innovative and equitable practices are aligned with the Strategic Plan and executed with fidelity; and work closely with the Leadership Team to ensure that initiative timelines are developed, executed and maintained.
A regionally competitive salary and benefits package will be offered. A master’s degree is required; a doctoral degree preferred. A minimum of eight years of progressively more responsible, relevant, successful experience is also required.
Screening is ongoing with the first round of interviews beginning in mid September. FCPS hopes to announce the appointment by November 1, 2020, with a start date as soon as possible thereafter.
