The Bedford County School Board is looking for a dynamic leader who is willing to make a commitment to the Bedford County Public Schools and the nearly 10,000 students in the school system.
Bedford County is in the Piedmont Region of Virginia, located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The County is home to an abundance of natural beauty and historical sites, structures, and scenic tourist attractions including Virginia’s largest lake, Smith Mountain Lake.
As of the 2010 census, Bedford’s population was nearly 70,000. The county population has nearly doubled since 1980.
The student population is steady and growing and students in the division achieve at very high levels. The seven member Bedford County School Board is very supportive of the schools. The school system has a long record of excellence and has a community dedicated and supportive of its schools.
The School Board hopes to name the new superintendent by the spring of 2021. Superintendent longevity has been the practice of Bedford County. The salary and benefits will be regionally competitive. Ability to be licensed as a superintendent in Virginia is required.
It is anticipated that the slate of candidates will be presented to the Board the first week of January.
