Carmel Unified School District (CUSD) is seeking an outstanding educational leader to be its next Superintendent of Schools. Located on the Central California Coast and spanning Carmel-by-the-Sea, Carmel Valley, Pebble Beach, and Big Sur, the district serves 2500 students in three elementary schools, Carmel River in Carmel, Tularcitos in Carmel Valley, and Captain Cooper in Big Sur); one middle school (Carmel Middle); and one high school (Carmel High). Additionally, CUSD has a continuation high school (Carmel Valley High), adult programs (Carmel Adult School), preschool and before/after school programs (Carmelo Child Development Center). The area offers unmatched natural beauty, historic points of interest and life in a small town with big town amenities. Its 594 square miles encompass some of the most scenic areas of the world, combining the unspoiled natural beauty with the cosmopolitan spirit of California’s most famous peninsula.
The successful candidate should have a proven track record as a confident and responsive leader who is an effective communicator. Competitive and negotiable salary contingent upon professional qualifications and achievements as an educational leader.
The Governing Board has retained Dr. Valerie Pitts and Dr. Glen “Max” McGee with Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA) to recruit qualified candidates. Any contact with board members, in an attempt to influence the selection process, will be considered a breach of professional ethics.
