The Port Washington Union Free School District is a high performing public school district located on the North Shore of Nassau County, roughly 25 miles east of Manhattan. The District serves over 5,500 students in pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade in five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The school system is a fundamental part of the community and works with parent-based and local organizations to embrace, celebrate, and build upon the District’s diversity in its student body and curriculum offerings. In 2013, Port Washington was recognized by The New York Times for its “highly regarded public school district.” The Board of Education is seeking an exceptional educational leader for the District’s superintendent of schools position, effective July 1, 2019 or as soon thereafter as possible. The ideal candidate should have the experience and skillset to build on the successes of the District, provide vision and direction to help students reach their greatest potentials and ensure the exceptional resources students need to excel both in the classroom and beyond.
