Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates is assisting the School Board of the Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) as it seeks a dynamic leader for their next Superintendent. The district has excellent governance with long term stability in the Board and long tenures of superintendents. The district serves 65,000 students in 89 schools and has a technology program that provides a one-to-one student to laptop ratio. All schools in the division are fully accredited and the school system is consistently ranked as one of the best in the state and in the nation. Nearly $100 million in scholarships were awarded to students in 2023.
The VBCPS is a high performing district in one of the most desirable places to live in the United States. This is an opportunity to lead a premier school division in a beautiful community. Virginia Beach is on the southeastern coast of Virginia. It is the most populous city in Virginia. Located on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. It is the largest city in the Hampton Road metropolitan area which includes numerous other cities and towns. The area is often referred to as “America’s First Region”. A resort city with miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels, motels, and restaurants along its oceanfront Virginia Beach is also home to several state parks, long-protected beach areas, military bases, and a number of large corporations. The city is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as having the longest pleasure beach in the world.

Candidate screening begins immediately and will last through December 2023. Board interviews will start in January 2024 with the goal of naming the next superintendent on or before March 1, 2024. A highly competitive salary and benefits package will be offered for qualified candidates.
