The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to appoint Jhone Ebert as the next Superintendent of CCSD, the nation’s fifth-largest school district, serving more than 300,000 students. Ebert becomes the first woman to hold the position in the district’s nearly 70-year history.
Her selection follows an extensive national search guided by HYA, with broad input from community members, staff, and key stakeholders. The appointment represents a historic milestone for the Las Vegas-based district, which has been without a permanent superintendent since early 2024. Ebert brings a distinguished career in education leadership. As Nevada’s top education leader, Ebert spearheaded initiatives to expand teacher recruitment and retention, strengthen funding for K-12 schools, and improve student outcomes statewide. Under her leadership, the state recruited 1,200 additional teachers and saw a 30% increase in retention rates. Her advocacy for equitable funding and her collaborative approach to addressing challenges have earned her respect among legislators, educators, and families.
Ebert has been candid about the challenges facing CCSD, from chronic absenteeism to staffing shortages, but expressed confidence in the district’s potential. “This is not a ‘me’ thing, it’s a ‘we’ thing,” she said following her appointment. “Each school has unique needs, and our solutions must be tailored to meet those challenges. I look forward to working with educators, families, and community partners to create safe, supportive, and thriving schools for every student.”
