HYA is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Smith was just placed at West Aurora School District 129 in Aurora, IL as the next superintendent beginning July 1, 2024. As the current Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, he will continue in his current role while preparing to transition to the superintendency. Dr. Smith was chosen at West Aurora with a wealth of experience serving the district as principal and now Assistant Superintendent of HR for 11 years. He understands the school system from the teaching and learning in the classroom to the business of the district office.
After hearing from the community, it was clear that the perfect fit to build upon Aurora’s success was Dr. Smith. West Aurora’s board of education felt Dr. Smith was a perfect fit because of his proven success within the district and for already having a positive impact on students as a teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent. The board of education is excited about him assuming the role to take West Aurora District 129 to the next level.
Dr. Brian Harris, the HYA Associate responsible for placing Dr. Smith stated, “Michael is a life long educator in the West Aurora community and his personal and professional experience in the district will allow him to move the district forward in a positive direction.”
