On January 26, 2023 members of the Board for Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Tawana Grover as the district’s new superintendent of schools, effective July 1, 2023. Cedar Rapids serves nearly 16,000 students at its thirty-three schools.
Dr. Grover most recently served in her seventh year as superintendent of Grand Island Public Schools in Nebraska. In her 27 years in education, Tawana Grover also held positions as teacher, principal, Curriculum Director and Chief Human Resources Officer.* With a background in Human Resources, Dr. Tawana Grover is well regarded for her track record of reducing teacher turnover rate and increasing staff diversity, among numerous other achievements.
The new superintendent looks forward to meeting students and community members and gathering their insight as she transitions to the district. Dr. Grover released the following statement, “I firmly believe that it takes an entire community to ensure the success of our public schools. Cedar Rapids Community School District’s commitment to placing students first is undeniable. As your next Superintendent, I will work to ensure students will graduate with more than a diploma. Dr. Tawana Grover will be sorely missed in Grand Island, as Board of Education President, Lisa Albers acknowledged, “Working side by side with Dr. Grover over these past seven years has been an amazing life altering experience.” David Tominsky, Board President for Cedar Rapids welcomes the transition stating, “Dr. Grover is a well-respected administrator with a tremendous amount of community leadership involvement. We are excited for her to assume this role and serve as Cedar Rapids School District Superintendent.”
