Dr. Sue Guiney, Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA)
On February 13, 2023, Dr. Drew Patrick was unanimously appointed as the new Superintendent of Scarsdale Public Schools in Scarsdale, New York. The District serves approximately 4,600 students at its seven schools.
Dr. Patrick has been serving as Scarsdale’s interim superintendent since May 2022. Prior to his role as Interim, Drew Patrick has held the position of Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development in Scarsdale. Before working in Scarsdale, Dr. Patrick was Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the Bedford Central School District in Westchester County, New York.
Following the vote, each member of the Board congratulated Dr. Patrick while remarking on their enthusiasm for the District’s new leader and the characteristics and qualities he possesses that will serve Scarsdale well under his direction. Board of Education (BOE) Vice President, Ron Schulhof spoke of the ability to watch Dr. Drew Patrick’s leadership style as he served as interim superintendent and noted that the Board “hit it out of the park” in choosing him for a permanent role. Other members of the BOE remarked about his exceptional communication skills, his thoughtful and caring demeanor, and his student-centered approach.*
The new Superintendent of Schools drew congratulations from Kenneth Bonamo, the Scarsdale High School Principal, who spoke on behalf of the Principals Association about Drew’s strong credentials and inclusive leadership style. Additionally, Joe Vaughan, President of the District’s Teachers Association thanked the BOE for their commitment to the process and highlighted the new leader’s leadership style and vision. Lauren Grossberg of the Parent Teacher Council shared on behalf of the council, thanking the Board for a successful and engaging effort, and shared in the excitement of the permanent leadership of Dr. Patrick.
In June of 2022, the Board of Education began a thoughtful and well-strategized process to find the best leader for their district, working with associates Debbie Raizes and Dr. Sue Guiney of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA). With the help of HYA, the Board engaged in a search involving the school community to recruit strong candidates to meet the needs of the District as outlined in the leadership profile developed as part of the process. “It was an honor and a pleasure to serve the dedicated and committed Scarsdale Board as well as the caring and engaged school community,” Dr. Sue Guiney of HYA stated.
