Katey McPherson brings experience in school leadership, prevention, and organizational change with over 23 years as a school leader. Katey’s educational career focused on curriculum and instruction, social justice, leadership development and digital citizenship/social media responsibility, before going on to become a national consultant and Executive Director of The Gurian Institute. Katey has lead initiatives on school safety, school culture and climate, brain-based teaching strategies, professional development for teachers and administrators in the areas of adolescent brain development, trauma-informed care/ACES, achievement gaps, as well as created a nationwide community and parent engagement series in the area of social media responsibility, teen suicide prevention, and social-emotional learning principles. She has presented at numerous national conferences and has been published in the book, “WTF: Why Teens Fail, What To Fix” as well as contributed to citizen science in the books, “Saving Our Sons” and “The Minds of Girls” by Dr. Michael Gurian. Katey has worked in Title I and suburban schools with a wide range of economic conditions and challenges and is fluent in Spanish. Her enthusiasm is unbridled and brings lasting change to learning communities and beyond.
