Education has the power to save students’ lives. Dr. Johnson believes this to his core and this belief has driven him to be an impactful and dedicated educator. To this end, he has served students and communities as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, director of instruction, and assistant superintendent. Dr. Johnson has also served as a higher education faculty member, teaching pre-service teachers, aspiring leaders, and masters level students.
Dr. Johnson has coached executives and facilitated learning for education professionals across the country. Additionally, he has published several articles and a book, A Walk in Their Kicks: Literacy, Identity, and the Schooling of Young Black Males, (Teachers College Press). Dr. Johnson has used his research background to help districts with organizational and instructional actions. He has partnered and engaged with urban, suburban, and rural schools on a regional basis and national basis. His work is “customized” to fit the needs of each district and school.
Dr. Johnson will conduct consulting work that is focused on the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion; including viable and culturally responsive curriculum, evidence-based instructional practices, equity-centered leadership, and organizational health and connecting school culture and climate to student outcomes. He works with strategic planning projects to enable districts to align their goals and action plans.
