Karen Brofft holds an EdS in Administrative Leadership and Policy Studies, as well as a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and a bachelor’s degree in Communications. Retired from serving as superintendent of the Lewis-Palmer School District in Colorado, Karen continues to provide coaching to superintendents and principals and has also served Boards of Education with executive searches and professional development.
Through her commitment to her own professional development as well as her extensive professional learning work with Board of Education members, administrators, and teachers, Karen has developed a passion for providing specialized support which results in practical application. Her experience in multiple districts with vastly different demographics offers experience and knowledge to support districts with their unique challenges and opportunities. Karen has collaborated with others to implement effective leadership models and is the co-author of the book, The Reflective Leader: Implementing a Multidimensional Leadership Performance System (2012).
Karen is well grounded in the development and implementation of effective strategic plans that are realistic, focused, and have a direct tie to the most important priorities of the leaders, Board of Education, staff, and community. It is not only the plan that is important to Karen, but how and with whom it was developed. Her extensive training in Cognitive Coaching, Adaptive Schools and Deliberative Engagement have afforded her the opportunity to lead the development of plans that reflect input from all members of the community. Karen’s commitment to communication and collaboration has been a cornerstone of her professional approach throughout her career, contributing to her receiving the COSPRA State Communicator of the Year Award in 2018.
Karen has invested over 30 years in education and brings her unyielding focus on successful school communities and student outcomes to every project. As a HYA Associate, Karen serves the Midwest Region and is available for executive coaching, executive searches, strategic planning, Board of Education development, and curriculum consulting.
