Bonita R. Coleman, PhD

Dr. Bonita Coleman is an accomplished educational leader, consultant, and speaker with more than three decades of experience advancing systems-level improvement in K–12 education. Her career spans service as a teacher, school leader, district administrator, state department of education leader, state charter school authorizer board member and a public school superintendent. Across these roles, Dr. Coleman has led work focused on board governance, student success, financial stewardship, community engagement, and strategic communication. In her current work, she integrates this depth of public-sector leadership with consulting experience to support districts, boards, and executive teams navigating complex organizational challenges.

Dr. Coleman’s leadership approach is grounded in the belief that leadership is a disciplined practice rooted in purpose, guided by vision, and driven by results. Her work emphasizes strategic planning aligned to clear priorities, strong board-superintendent partnerships, transparent communication, and the intentional use of student data and growth measures to inform decision-making. She has led systems through continuous improvement cycles that integrate leadership development, operational alignment, and instructional focus, while leveraging community partnerships and professional learning to sustain progress.

Dr. Coleman will provide executive search and leadership development opportunities centered on the district’s/system’s unique needs and goals. Her focus areas include strategic planning and implementation, executive and superintendent coaching, board governance and board-superintendent relations, leadership development, student data analysis and academic growth strategies, and supporting organizational culture. Through customized coaching and professional learning, Dr. Coleman helps leaders move from intention to impact while building the internal capacity needed for sustainable improvement.
