Julie Furst-Bowe holds a doctorate in education from the University of Minnesota and has over 25 years of higher education leadership experience. Dr. Furst-Bowe has served as Provost and Chief Academic Officer at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Arkansas Tech University and Chippewa Valley Technical College and as Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer at Southern Illinois University. Recently retired from full-time administrative positions, Julie currently serves as an adjunct professor in career and technical education.
After the University of Wisconsin-Stout received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2001, Dr. Furst-Bowe became known for her expertise in quality improvement and performance excellence in higher education, and she is an active author, speaker and consultant in this field. Julie has also served as a trainer, mentor and evaluator with the Higher Learning Commission for more than 20 years, helping institutions meet the criteria for regional accreditation. She has hired, coached and developed numerous teams of academic deans, directors and other educational administrators.
Julie currently works with numerous colleges and universities across the country and around the world on leadership development, shared governance, strategic planning, curriculum/program development, faculty development, accreditation and process improvement. She has received recognition for her work from the Baldrige Awards Program, the Higher Learning Commission, Wisconsin Women in Higher Education Leadership, the International Vocational Education and Training Association and Women We Admire. She is involved in and holds leadership roles in several community, state, national and international organizations.
