School Business Administrator/Board Secretary
Position
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attends Board meetings, prepares Board meeting notices, Board agendas, and
minutes, and prepares such reports for the Superintendent as requested. - Assists in the determination of types of building renovation, and construction
programs needed in the schools and makes appropriate recommendations to the
Superintendent. - Reports on the status of District financial programs and services.
- Serves as a resource person during the budget development and budget
monitoring process to all building principals and directors. - Supervises the business department’s work of processing and completing certain
business activities as well as planning for themain expansion of all school facilities. - Keeps the Superintendent informed about the needs of the school district in the
areas of budget development, budget management, construction and renovation. - Prepares state reports and claims as required.
- Assists with budget development and long-range financial planning.
- Develops, implements, and monitors a written program for the systematic
inventorying and purchasing of supplies, materials, and equipment. - Develops and supervises a program for budget and budget control.
- Administers, through the food services director, the cafeteria services and the
school lunch program. - Establishes and supervises a program of accounting and reporting for the financial
affairs of the district. - Supervises data processing procedures to provide management information, evaluation techniques, and long-range forecasts.
- Supervises personnel in the business department.
- Serves as a consultant on any grant proposal originating in the district.
- Interprets the business area of educational programs to the community at large.
- Manages the district’s real estate and insurance programs.
- Supervises the development of monthly and annual financial reports as required.
- Consults with the Superintendent and district personnel on questions relating to the district’s business affairs.
- Serves as a liaison between the business office and city finance departmental personnel.
- Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as the
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid New Jersey Certification in School Business Administration
- A Master's Degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of five years of experience in fields related to the areas of expected
performance - At least one year of experience in a supervisory capacity
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to perform in areas of responsibility
- Required criminal history background check and eligibility to work in the United
States - All applicants must meet NJ Residency requirements as per “New Jersey First
Act,” , N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70) - Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
- Review of credentials submitted in the District’s digital candidate
submission portal by the HR Department Lead or the designee identified
by the Superintendent of Schools. - An oral screening interview to confirm an applicant’s qualifications and
aptitude for the position. - A group of District professionals with links to the Business Administrator’s responsibilities will serve as an interview panel for the candidates.
- The Superintendent of Schools will conduct the final interview and recommend a finalist for the Board of Education’s consideration.
- The appointment of a person is the responsibility of the Board of Education and will be made in compliance with Board policies related to the appointment of professional personnel.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve (12) month work year
SALARY RANGE:
$165k – $185k
