MICHIGAN STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION
The Michigan Department of Education is seeking an experienced, collaborative education leader with abundant political savvy, impeccable integrity, and superior communication skills to become Michigan’s next Superintendent of Public Instruction. This position is the opportunity of a lifetime for a leader who has a calling to make an enduring positive difference in the lives of millions of children, families, and public school educators. In addition to leading a department of 500+ highly dedicated, hard-working staff, the State Superintendent chairs meetings for an eight-member elected State Board of Education and is the face and voice of public education. The Superintendent will need to build close working, trusting relationships with multiple stakeholder groups, the state legislature, and the Governor’s office. The ideal candidate will have worked successfully with students from diverse backgrounds and the full continuum of academic and social emotional abilities and needs. The Superintendent must also balance educational expertise with political acumen and a collaborative leadership style with an unwavering, courageous commitment to – and focus on – what is best and right for Michigan’s children.
