SUPERINTENDENT VACANCY
CAMDEN CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
Camden, New Jersey

The New Jersey Department of Education is seeking a state superintendent for the Camden City School District beginning on or near November 1, 2025, with a salary commensurate with the complexity and size of the district.   

Camden City is a unique and historic city, home to approximately 71,000 residents situated within 10.34 square miles and offers quick access to renowned museums and art galleries in nearby Philadelphia, P.A. Almost every neighborhood is a treasure of its own with a variety of restaurants and shops that reflect the city’s great ethnic and cultural diversity.  Well-known actors, entertainers, and writers hail from Camden City including Lola Falana, Walt Whitman and Buster Williams.

Camden City serves as the county seat and is also home to the “eds and meds” institutions of Rutgers University-Camden, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, Cooper University Hospital, and Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. 

Other notable Camden attractions and establishments include the USS New Jersey battleship, the Camden Athletic Complex, and Adventure Aquarium along the waterfront and the 76ers Practice Facility.  Subaru of America and the Campbell’s Company are also headquartered in Camden City.

The Camden City School District, notwithstanding its complexity and challenges, is committed to their mission, “All Camden Students will attend a high-quality school where they are valued, challenged, and prepared for college and careers that positively impact their community and the world.*”  There are 16 schools consisting of two early childhood centers, eight family schools, one middle school, and 5 high schools.  Each of these schools provide educational opportunities to approximately 7,000 students.  The school district personalizes learning to support each child’s unique needs as reflected in the Brimm Medical Arts High School, Creative Arts High School, Big Picture Learning Academy and the Innovator Academy at Morgan Village Middle School.  CCSD is centered on a vision which strives to create a student-centered learning environment where all students belong, are included, and are empowered to excel.

Candidates must have or be immediately eligible for a NJDOE School Administrators Certificate of Eligibility (SACE) or a Standard School Administrators Certificate. Applications will be received through August 1, 2025.
