The Maryland State Board of Education seeks an outstanding educational leader to serve as the State Superintendent of Schools beginning on July 1, 2024.
Maryland has over 1,400 public schools, 24 local education agencies, and over 7,000 child care providers serving all of the state’s 23 counties plus Baltimore City. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) works collaboratively with the State Board of Education and stakeholders to ensure the promise of an excellent and equitable education for all students, especially those who have been historically underserved. The State Board members are looking for an innovative educator who ensure a rigorous and world-class educational experience for every Maryland student, in every neighborhood, that prepares each to be college and career ready, through:
- strategic direction and leadership;
- policy making and resource allocation; and
- engagement and advocacy.
The mission requires all stakeholders to be bold and to act with urgency to work together transform Maryland education to ensure that every Maryland student has access to excellent and equitable educational opportunities to realize their full potential. The State Board is looking for an extraordinary educator to lead the MSDE in implementing the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, a once-in-a-generation opportunity, that provides the policy and investment needed to realize our mission. Specific desired leadership characteristics and qualifications are expected to be available and posted on or around January 24, 2024. Candidates must possess the proper certification or be immediately eligible to obtain the same. A multi-year contract will be offered with a salary in the range of $350,000 per annum subject to negotiation based on qualifications and experience.
