Yonkers Board of Education Selected Anibal Soler Jr. as Superintendent

The Yonkers Board of Education has unanimously selected Anibal Soler Jr. as the next Superintendent of New York’s Yonkers Public Schools. Soler is expected to assume the position beginning May 1, 2024.

The District’s new superintendent brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Yonkers. He has served as Superintendent of Schenectady City Schools since 2021 and before that he led Batavia City Schools as superintendent. During his superintendency in the two districts, Soler managed budgeting and led the charge for new initiatives, including Community Schools and Early College High School. Anibal Soler, Jr. also served as Associate Superintendent in Buffalo Public Schools where he led school improvement initiatives and initiatives focused on equity and opportunity. Soler has served as an Adjunct Professor. He anticipates an Ed.D in Educational Leadership from Manhattanville College. *

Mr. Soler is honored to be appointed as the next superintendent of Yonkers where he will serve more than 24,000 students in the Pk-12 school district. “My primary focus will be on continuing to elevate our district, assuring that every student is provided with an exceptional education that equips them for success. Together, we will build on our strengths, embrace innovative approaches, and ensure that our district becomes a beacon of educational excellence,” shared the new leader.*

Yonkers’ officials welcome Mr. Soler to New York’s third largest school district. Board President Reverend Steve Lopez shared his enthusiasm for the appointment of the new leader noting that Soler’s “unparalleled experience in transforming urban school districts is a perfect match for our needs.” *

Interim Superintendent, Dr. Luís Rodríguez will work closely with the new appointee over the next few months to help ensure a smooth transition, Dr. Rodríguez stated of Mr. Soler, “His vision for academic excellence, and his alignment with our district’s goals, are clearly evident.” *

The Yonkers Board of Education led a nationwide superintendent search that led to the 8-0 vote for Mr. Anibal Soler, Jr. On July 1, 2023, the District hired Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates to facilitate the process of hiring the new Superintendent.  HYA’s Associates Dr. Susan Guiney and Debbie Raizes collaborated with the Board and members of the school community to develop a leadership profile for the new superintendent. The Board’s dedication to the students in the Yonkers Public Schools was evident throughout the search process, especially in the Board’s commitment to academic excellence, access to innovative programs and opportunities for all students, and their selection of Anibal Soler, Jr. as the District’s next leader.  Anibal Soler embodies this dedication and commitment through his values and actions. He brings great energy, knowledge, and experience to the District.  We are excited for the Board and for all of the students and families in Yonkers.
