Course Description

Negotiation is the process through which people come together to make sense of problems and build sustainable solutions. In that sense, we as education leaders are negotiating all day, every day. We are negotiating with staff, students, colleagues, caregivers, community members, and political leaders. Some of our negotiations are formal, such as a contract negotiation. But most of our negotiations are informal, such as when we deliberate on how to address a pressing challenge or resolve a conflict within our school or community. This Academy will explore foundational skills and practices related to negotiation, collaborative problem-solving, and conflict resolution. Participants will walk away with practical frameworks and strategies for how to leverage their negotiation skills to enhance their leadership effectiveness. Participants will:

  • Engage in multiple negotiation simulations
  • Reflect on their negotiation strengths and weaknesses
  • Develop a plan for utilizing negotiation practice in their daily work
