Mount Vernon City School District

The Mount Vernon City School District is searching for an outstanding educational leader to collaborate with a team of dedicated educators passionate about fostering intellectual growth, character development, and overall well-being for all students. The successful candidate will shape the future of our diverse and multicultural district by leading the development and implementation of a long-range strategic plan that prioritizes equity and excellence, including the successful execution of the Reconfiguration Plan.  Support the development of an environment where your vision and leadership will empower both students and educators to achieve their full potential and make a lasting impact.

About the District

Mount Vernon is a vibrant community that celebrates the unique backgrounds and experiences of its students. As of the 2024–25 school year, the district had an enrollment of approximately 7,000 students attending pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade in 16 schools. Comprehensive programs include IB, the arts, STEAM, athletics and activities.

A city district with a suburban feel, Mount Vernon is minutes from parks, beaches, recreation and New York City.

Qualifications

  • Proven Executive: Multi-year success in high-level educational leadership roles within comparably complex organizations. NY School Administrator/Certificate of Eligibility required.
  • Strategic Visionary: Develops and implements a comprehensive long-range plan aligned with district goals and community values.
  • Collaborative Leader: Builds trust and foster open communication across students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Equity Champion: Possesses a deep understanding of systemic inequities and implements impactful strategies to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Exceptional Communicator: Connects effectively with diverse audiences, inspiring and motivating stakeholders to embrace change and strive for excellence.
