Dr. Steven Yanni was selected by the Lower Merion School District’s (LMSD) Board of School Directors to serve as the next Superintendent of Schools in the Pennsylvania district. Dr. Yanni will serve more than 8,000 students in his new role.
Since July 2018, Dr. Yanni has been serving the community of Upper Dublin School District in the role of Superintendent. Prior to leading Upper Dublin, Dr. Yanni served the New Hope-Solebury District first as Assistant Superintendent, then as Superintendent. Lower Merion’s new leader brings a wealth of administrative experience to the district, beyond his superintendency positions. He has served as a Supervisor of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessments and as an elementary school principal. Additionally, he was a Response to Instruction and Intervention Coordinator. He spent his early days in education as a teacher.*
The Lower Merion Board of School Directors hired Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA) to facilitate the District’s search for a new Superintendent. HYA’s Vice President, Dr. Bill Adams and Senior Associate Stacey Adams worked alongside the Board of School Directors as they developed a leadership profile to capture the qualifications and attributes of their future leader, while considering the priorities of the district. HYA’s associates conducted community forums and reviewed surveys to gather input from the community. The Board expressed gratitude to the community members for their involvement in the process that helped to shape the process. Dr. Adams added, “This was a deep field of highly qualified applicants, thus making our job even more challenging in assisting the board in getting the best fit in their successor educational leader, to take this high-performing District to the next level.”
According to the District’s press release, “the board interviewed numerous highly qualified candidates before selecting Dr. Yanni.” School Board President Lucy Klain remarked, “The Board is extremely excited that Dr. Yanni will bring his experience as a dynamic, caring, and thoughtful educational leader to the Lower Merion School District. His deep commitment to ensuring excellence in education for every student every day alongside his dedication to building community connections reflects what is most important to this community.” *
The new leader expressed his enthusiasm to get started in the Lower Merion community. “I am eager to work with and on behalf of our students, staff, Board, families and common goals as we reach new and higher levels of educational excellence in Lower Merion,” stated Dr. Yanni. “I look forward to building relationships based on trust, respect, and collaboration, as we create a bright future together.” Dr. Yanni is expected to assume the position on August 14. He will host several welcome events for members of the school community.
