Principal Search – Washington, DC
Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), in partnership with DC Public Schools (DCPS), is conducting a national search for an exceptional instructional leader to serve as Principal in a high-needs, urban school community in Washington, DC.

This search seeks a proven, equity-centered leader with a strong instructional background and a demonstrated record of accelerating student achievement.

Position Overview
The Principal will:

  • Lead a diverse school community with clarity, coherence, and instructional focus
  • Demonstrate measurable student growth and academic acceleration
  • Align leadership practices to the DCPS Leadership Framework
  • Cultivate a culture of excellence, belonging, and high expectations

Required Qualifications

  • Active Principal-Level Administrative License
    (Assistant principal or general administrative licenses alone do not meet the requirement)
  • Eligibility for licensure reciprocity in Washington, DC
  • Documented success improving student outcomes in a Principal role for at least three years
  • Strong instructional leadership experience
  • (Preferred) Experience supporting specialty programs such as:
    • Dual-language
    • Montessori
    • Bilingual education
    • Large comprehensive school environments

Candidate Expectations
Candidates selected to advance will:

  • Submit artifacts demonstrating leadership impact aligned to the DCPS Leadership Framework
  • Participate in a structured performance presentation process with senior instructional leaders
