Principal Search – Washington, DC
Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), in partnership with DC Public Schools (DCPS), is conducting a national search for an exceptional instructional leader to serve as Principal in a high-needs, urban school community in Washington, DC.
This search seeks a proven, equity-centered leader with a strong instructional background and a demonstrated record of accelerating student achievement.
Position Overview
The Principal will:
- Lead a diverse school community with clarity, coherence, and instructional focus
- Demonstrate measurable student growth and academic acceleration
- Align leadership practices to the DCPS Leadership Framework
- Cultivate a culture of excellence, belonging, and high expectations
Required Qualifications
- Active Principal-Level Administrative License
(Assistant principal or general administrative licenses alone do not meet the requirement) - Eligibility for licensure reciprocity in Washington, DC
- Documented success improving student outcomes in a Principal role for at least three years
- Strong instructional leadership experience
- (Preferred) Experience supporting specialty programs such as:
- Dual-language
- Montessori
- Bilingual education
- Large comprehensive school environments
Candidate Expectations
Candidates selected to advance will:
- Submit artifacts demonstrating leadership impact aligned to the DCPS Leadership Framework
- Participate in a structured performance presentation process with senior instructional leaders
