Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning
Rock Island Milan School District 41 (RIMSD) seeks an exceptional instructional leader to serve as its next Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. This is a pivotal role responsible for advancing a coherent, high-quality instructional program that ensures excellence for all students. The successful candidate will lead curriculum, instruction, intervention, assessment, and professional learning across the district, working in close partnership with the district leadership team, building leaders and teachers to advance student outcomes, align systems, and drive continuous improvement. This leader will play a central role in supporting the district’s strategic priorities and must combine deep instructional expertise with systems-level leadership—someone who can align people, practices, and data to deliver measurable results for all students.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, student-centered leader with a background of effective, evidence-based instruction; working knowledge of MTSS as well as emerging curriculum trends; data-informed decision-making and budgeting; and systems-level leadership. They will be an outstanding communicator and team builder who listens, engages stakeholders, and translates vision into action. They must be an approachable, accessible, personable, and a regular presence in the schools as well as an active listener and inquisitive learner. Experience leading successful large-scale instructional initiatives, supporting diverse learners, and developing high-performing teams is essential.
RIMSD serves approximately 6,200 diverse students in 13 schools. The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the superintendent and serves on a five-member Executive Leadership Team.
