Job Description

The Clarke County Public Schools (VA) is seeking a superintendent beginning on August 1, 2024.

Located in Berryville, VA, just south of Winchester, Clarke County Public Schools serves 1,924  students in their four accredited schools; Boyce and D.G. Cooley Elementary Schools, Johnson-Williams Middle School, and Clarke County High School. The District’s manageable size promotes Visibility, Inclusion, Relationships, and Transparency.  The diversity of the student population is 26.6% with 7.5% English Language Learners, 11.6% Students with Disabilities, 32% Economically Disadvantaged, and a 0.7% Dropout Rate – which is above the State Average. Clarke County Public Schools has had steady Graduation Rates the past three years ranging from 98 to 99%, and a dropout rate as low as 0.7% which is above the State average.

  • Students participated in Dual Enrollment, AP Courses, and an international Baccalaureate (IB) Program Courses.
  • Students earn one or more CTE credentials while in high school. 
  • Steady student achievement by proficiency level for the past 3 years on English (Reading and Writing), and Mathematics State Assessments.
  • Academic offerings at the high school include the prestigious International Baccalaureate diploma program, Mountain Vista Governor’s School, and  strong Career and Technical Education offerings in agriculture, medical health, and technical career pathways.
  • A wide offering of athletics and extracurricular activities are offered at the high school and middle school. 
  • At the high school, most sports are offered, as well as activities such as Marching Band, DECA, FFA, Robotics, Forensics, and many others.
  • High school students can work through Laurel Ridge Community College to earn college credit.
  • The middle school offers the following high school credit courses: Algebra I;  Exploring Computer Science; French I and II; Honors Geometry; Foundations of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources; Latin I; and Spanish I and II.
  • The elementary schools provide a positive caring and nurturing environment as the students develop and progress toward middle school.  Effective teaching and a strong parent support group partnership at both schools to ensure the best learning environment for the children.

The salary is $170,000 plus benefits.
