The Malverne Union Free School District (K-12, 1700 students) is situated less than 30 minutes from midtown Manhattan in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, New York, and includes portions of the villages of Malverne, Lynbrook, Rockville Centre and West Hempstead and the unincorporated areas of Malverne and North Lynbrook. With a proud history of success in all aspects of school endeavor, the Malverne School District is a diverse multicultural, multigenerational district with a long history of students who graduate, go to college and come back to Malverne to buy a home and start their families. District residents value their educational system and have high expectations for student success. The district consists of four school buildings – Malverne High School (Grades 9-12), Howard T. Herber Middle School (Grades 6-8), Davison Avenue Intermediate School (Grades 3-5) and Maurice W. Downing Primary School (Grades K-2). Malverne High School has been ranked among the nation’s top high schools in The Washington Post’s Most Challenging High Schools list and has earned designation on the National Advanced Placement Honor Roll. 98 % of Malverne HS graduates earned Regents diplomas in 2024 and 85% of the senior class were enrolled in a college level course. With a class size of 150 students, Malverne High School had 86 AP Scholars in 2024. Malverne High School is one of the select schools to offer Project Lead the Way to its students, along with 20 Advanced Placement courses, including AP Capstone. In addition to a thriving sport, theatre arts and art program, the District’s Pride of Malverne Marching Band has been named New York State Champions several times and won first place in the Metallica Band Competition in 2024. Upon completion of a bond project in 2020, the Malverne community opened a new performing arts center, music wing and STEM labs at Malverne High School. In 2023 the community supported the completion of a new state of the art baseball field and in 2024, renovated its auditorium.
