Western Dakota Technical College (WDTC) in Rapid City, South Dakota, seeks a strategic and collaborative Executive Vice President. This executive will drive institutional excellence by coordinating the college leadership team, overseeing integrated operations, and ensuring alignment across functional areas to advance WDTC’s mission of innovation and growth. This position is a 12-month full-time, exempt administrative employee, reporting to the President.

As the President’s key strategic partner, the EVP will lead the VP leadership team. The role calls for someone who can see the big picture while managing complex moving parts—someone who translates vision into operational reality and empowers leaders across finance, academics, and student services to work as one unified team.

The Role:
College-Wide Operations

  • Coordinate and guide the Vice Presidents and drive institutional effectiveness
  • Lead strategic processes that connect departmental goals to institutional outcomes
  • Establish operational frameworks and accountability systems that enable excellence at scale

Financial & Resource Stewardship 

  • Provide oversight of financial operations, ensuring resources align strategically with the educational mission
  • Partner with the foundation and business community to build sustainable revenue models
  • Drive data-informed decision-making through sophisticated analysis of financial and operational performance

Strategic Growth & Innovation

  • Identify and develop partnerships (internally and externally) that expand WDTC’s reach and impact
  • Champion new program development and revenue opportunities aligned with regional workforce needs

Organizational Excellence

  • Build a culture of continuous improvement across all operational functions
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements
  • Manage institutional risk while maintaining operational agility and responsiveness

Executive Skill Profile:
Technical Competencies

  • Deep understanding of financial analysis, budgeting, and resource allocation
  • Experience with governmental accounting and higher education finance preferred
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulatory environments (or ability to learn quickly)
  • Comfort with data systems, technology infrastructure, and process improvement methodologies

Leadership Capabilities

  • Proven ability to lead and develop executive teams
  • Track record of building partnerships that generate new opportunities
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders with competing priorities
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills paired with operational execution ability
  • High level of emotional intelligence

Experience & Education

  • Master’s degree required in a relevant field (Business Operations, Higher Education Administration, Organizational Leadership, or related)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading organizational functions such as human resources, finance, policy, or operations

Compensation and Benefits: A competitive salary range ($115,000 – $135,000) based on experience and education, with competitive benefits.
