Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) is a public school district headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama, serving the city and surrounding Montgomery County. As of 2022, MPS is the third-largest district in Alabama, with 31,743 students enrolled. The district comprises 32 elementary schools, 13 middle schools, and 10 high schools, along with 6 magnet schools, 1 alternative school, and 2 special education centers. Notably, MPS offers International Baccalaureate programs at an elementary and middle school. The student composition is 78% Black, 16% White, 3% Latino, and 2% Asian. Approximately 45% qualify for free and reduced lunch and 18% are English Language Learners. In recent years, MPS has achieved significant academic milestones. In 2024, the district reported a 7-point increase in its state rating for the 2023-2024 school year. The district is governed by the Montgomery County Board of Education, a seven-member elected body committed to working with the community to improve educational outcomes.
